JULY 4, 2026, SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA Skan is built privacy-first. Your expense data is yours: it stays on your device, it's processed on your device, and it's never sent to us or to any advertising or profiling service. This page explains exactly what that means.
Where your data is stored
All of your data — expenses, receipts, budgets, and settings — is stored locally on your device. Skan does not operate any backend servers, and we never receive, see, or have access to your financial information.
There is no account to create and no sign-up required. Because nothing is uploaded to us, there is no server-side copy of your data to be breached, sold, or subpoenaed.
iCloud Sync
If you enable iCloud Sync, your data is synced across your devices using Apple's CloudKit and stored in your personal, private iCloud account. That copy of your data lives on Apple's servers, governed by Apple's privacy policy — not ours — and we have no access to it. iCloud Sync is optional — it's on by default so your data follows you across your devices, but you can turn it off at any time in Settings, after which your data stays only on the device it was created on.
Receipt scanning
When you photograph a receipt, the text extraction happens entirely on-device using Apple's on-device technology. Your receipt images and the information read from them never leave your device. No photo or extracted data is ever uploaded to us or to a third-party OCR or AI service.
Network access
Skan makes a single type of outbound network request: fetching current currency exchange rates so it can convert amounts between currencies. These requests ask only for public exchange-rate data — no personal, financial, or identifying information about you is included. We do not use analytics, advertising, tracking, or crash-reporting services.
What we collect
Nothing. Skan does not collect, transmit, or store any personal data on our side. There is no tracking and no profiling.

Data sharing
We do not share, sell, or rent your data — because we never receive it in the first place.
Your control
Because your data lives on your device, you are always in full control. You can edit or delete any entry at any time, and uninstalling the app removes its data from the device.
Children's privacy
Skan is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published here with a new date. Continued use of the app after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
